Meet The Officers

Berkeley Davis

president
mechanical engineering

Hello, my name is Berkeley Davis and I am a Fourth year mechanical engineering student from Durango, Colorado. As President of QL+, I am in charge of overseeing the club as a whole. My career goals involve applying my mechanical engineering education to the biomedical field in order to help others. I have held a long interest in prostheses and medical devices specifically, and as soon as I learned I could start designing these through QL+ Club, I was hooked. I love this club because it allows undergraduate students of all majors to come together and apply what they learn in class to projects that improve the quality of life of real people.

Andrew Meyers

Senior vice president
Biomedical engineering

Greetings, my name is Andrew Myers, and I am the Senior Vice President of the Quality of Life Plus Student Association. I am a Second Year Biomedical Engineering Student from Santa Maria, CA. My job entails managing and maintain the lab as well as overseeing lab development and formal design projects. If you are interested in using our 3D printers, contact either myself or the Technical Director, Veera Panova. QL+ is the reason I chose to attend Cal Poly, and since my First Year I have been heavily involved, both through club events and being a team member on a formal design project. The QL+ SA is an incredible way to get to see your hard engineering work really benefit someone. Aside from my interests in QL+, I am also a member of the Microsystems Technology Group, a Cal Poly Engineering Ambassador, and a QL+ Intramural Flag Football Champion. Feel free to contact me anytime with questions.

Kat Turk

Vice president of operations
biomedical engineering

Hi! My name is Kat Turk. I am a third year Biomedical Engineering student concentrating in bioinstrumentation. I am the Vice President of Operations for QL+ SA. In this position I handle club correspondence and logistics. I grew up in Santa Monica, CA but graduated high school in Tampa, FL. I found QL+ SA on a College of Engineering tour before I had chosen Cal Poly. I fell in love immediately with this club’s mission and active service. It was a huge part of my decision to attend Cal Poly. I’m thrilled to be able to serve such a wonderful institution.

Katie Mangiaracina

treasurer
Mechanical engineering

I am a third year Mechanical Engineering major from Yorba Linda, CA. As the QL+ Treasurer, I am responsible for handling all of the money matters within the student association. Joining as a freshman, I was originally drawn to QL+ because of its mission to serve wounded veterans and community members. However, I have learned that QL+ is so much more. Not only do members have the opportunity to apply their engineering skills to the real world, there is a true sense of family within the student association. I am looking forward to serving our members by maintaining that family spirit. My main goal for QL+ is to continue to grow and include students from any major who are inspired to help with the student association’s mission. My hobbies include dominating the basketball court, being outdoors, making graphic art, and playing the piano.

Veera Panova

Technical Director
chemistry/ biochemistry

Hi everyone! I am a second year Chemist/Biochemist with a minor in Spanish from San Diego, CA. I got involved with QL+ after I toured the lab during the club showcase. The best thing about it is how interdisciplinary and hands-on all the projects are! I was selected to be on an FDP to create a cycling prosthesis. It’s incredible that all the steps, from design of the bike attachment to the position of the socket connector, we created ourselves. It was an extraordinary learning experience and an opportunity to help a person from our community. Besides many hours I spend in the QL+ lab, I conduct research in Polymers and Coatings department, volunteer with Circle K, and help a Chemistry professor as a Learning Assistant. Some of my hobbies are travelling, painting, exploring new restaurants, and playing sports.

Tyler Tackabery

Media Manager
biomedical engineering

My name is Tyler Tackabery and I am a Fourth Year Biomedical Engineering Major with a concentration in Mechanical Design from Encinitas, CA. I originally started at Cal Poly as an Agricultural Business major. As a third year I heard about QL+ through a friend and the way the student association affects people’s lives in the community. I had spent the better part of college looking for a place that I could excel in something I am good at, and also a way I can change people’s lives. So as a third year, I decided to switch my major to Biomedical Engineering and I never looked back. I am now the Media manager for QL+SA, check out our instagram and facebook. I truly think that I found the place that is right for me, and I also get to affect many people’s lives through the skills and strengths that I obtain through classes. I consider myself pretty lucky to find something that I am not only passionate about, but also good at doing. Outside of QL+SA, I spend most of my time at the beach surfing, or constantly staying active with the amazing opportunities that are given by the landscape and terrain that Central California has to offer.
